Internet of Things is considered to be one of the leading startup fields, constantly bringing something new to the tech market. Several days ago Microsoft office in Ukraine launched a modern IoT laboratory in Kiev, thus providing local developers with a necessary working environment and available learning tools. Now Ukrainian projects involved in IoT can just upload their online applications to get a free working space in Microsoft IoT Lab. This is only a pilot project, but Microsoft intends to maintain it in the future.
To get in, the applicants should meet some basic criteria. The minimum requirement to startuppers is coding skills. Plus it would be nice to possess some radionics background, which would definitely simplify your learning process within the program. But what is more important, the project should bring a perspective idea for the product.
Microsoft IoT Lab members will be granted with a wide range of opportunities. Apart from admission to a special education course in hardware realization of IoT projects, startuppers will get access to some useful equipment to work with: various sensors, modules, measuring devices like oscilloscopes. Each team will be provided with a working space in the lab and certain further support in reaching the market. As a great bonus, Microsoft gives all the participants a free-of-charge 3-month access to Azure cloud space within BizSpark program.
One working cycle in Microsoft Lab will last for 6 months and is divided into four parts:
- 2 months – teams’ education,
- 2 months – product development,
- 1 month – product demonstration,
- 1 month – learning how to interact with suppliers and manufacturers.
Thus in the end each team should have a real customer willing to buy their product or a manufacturing deal with some factory.Application process is open until December 10th. Then on December 15th the jury will announce 10 startup teams selected for Microsoft IoT Lab project.
