According to most of the #SWITCH-visitors, one of the coolest and most exciting parts of the event were the display of modern gadgets, robots, drones and other interesting appliances. Here we met all the young conference visitors who were happy to try everything and willingly participate in numerous experiments. Lithuanian universities, private companies, research centers and startuppers presented their modern products to the public and surprised everyone with newest technologies.
As we entered COOL and CRAZY zone, we were at once fascinated by great music beats coming from the left corner and noticed a group of people dancing around some bright device. That was Mash Machine, a special gadget that gives you a chance to produce your own music sets even without a professional DJ experience just by moving the blocks responsible for different sounds: keyboard, string instruments, and drums, vocal. This “music toy” attracted a lot of people during the conference and created a wonderful energetic atmosphere.
Another crowd gathered around the stand of the Kaunas University of Technology where the students demonstrated the results of their research and development work: robots, virtual reality glasses, biological parameters tracking systems. All these achievements represent high technology solutions that can be widely applied in different fields. For example, the two items based on biological parameters tracking systems produced within the university lab can be applied in health therapy and diagnostics. The students working on these items would like to spread these products and make them as affordable as possible, but they are not interested in making big business, they are more concentrated on the scientific approach and making people healthy.
We also spoke with the CEO of Green Garage, Max Pertsovskiy. Green Garage is a multi-profile organization that represents a macro space, a learning center, and electronic labs all created as a big environment for people of all ages to do something with their hands. The company now aims at attracting more members there and providing them with high-class tools to make stuff. According to Max, Vilnius is a great place for organizing various workshops for numerous talented people. Parents are very passionate about bringing their children to Green Garage classes and introducing them to such a practical hobby. Today Green Garage targets the Baltic States, but they plan to move to the Nordic and Western European markets in the nearest future.
What really made us feel that coolness and craziness of #SWITCH exhibition were the panel of Baltic Orbis company, a private company dealing with special biometrics software and robots. Looking at their representative Rimantas Burnickis, dressed like a scientific professor from some Hollywood movie, everyone got captivated and came closer. Baltic Orbis developed unique software integrated with a special device connected to a person’s brain. The device monitors alpha and beta waves of the brain activity, reflecting relaxed state and mind concentration respectively. Then the scanned information is sent to the software which interprets the signals and translates this data into the code. The code then gives orders to the robot that will visualize your activity level through its movements. Hundreds of visitors, including our team members, tried the device by attaching it to the head and making efforts to control yourself and thus ruling the machine with the mind power. Feels incredible! This unique technology can be applied in numerous fields like medicine, therapy, machinery.
It is really impossible to describe everything we saw at that great exhibition. Drones flying over our heads, 3D printers creating real objects beneath our very eyes, oculus glasses allowing to dive into the world of virtual reality and to feel the real adrenaline. So many emotions, enthusiasm, fresh ideas – all this made us feel a part of the talented community open for innovations and striving for success.
