Sad news from Ukraine. Investor Day Central and Eastern Europe, or IDCEE, one of the largest IT events in Europe bringing together venture capitalists, business angels and ambitious tech entrepreneurs organized by TA Venture, was canceled after being held in Kiev for 5 years in a row.
The reason, as you might have already guessed, is the current economic and political situation in the country. The organizers believe that the state the country is in now does not provide a favorable investment climate thus decreasing the quality and effectiveness of the events of such caliber. Although it must be mentioned that TA Venture did a pretty good job holding IDCEE in Kiev in 2014 when Ukraine fared not better.
IDCEE was an annual event hosted in Kiev featuring over 150 startups from 20 countries, well-renowned speakers from the business world, and over 2500 participants from all the world, not to mention hackathons and a chance for ambitious startuppers to win the grand and get noticed like Kwamb.io, the 3D printing marketplace, did in IDCEE 2014. According to Oleksii Vitchenko, the founder of Digital Future, IDCEE 2014 was a VC heaven, offering amazing networking opportunities and a great look at the local startup community as well as possible partnerships.
Still, as TA Venture promised, they are not finished with the Ukraine. They are still going to work on nurturing the local startup community through introducing weekly office hours dedicated to sharing the experience, organize meet ups and mentorship programs starting September 2015.Hopefully, it will all result in a stunning comeback from IDCEE next year.
